Our Kickstarter is Live!
American Abyss is now available on Kickstarter!
In case you missed it, our team has been hard at work on a new project. It's really big, and we need your help to make it possible. Here's a quick rundown of exactly what we have in mind...
American Abyss follows multiple threads told in different formats. For listeners who want a straightforward story, we'll have a narrative podcast that introduces them to the world of American Abyss. But for those who like to wander, we've built a website full of hidden secrets, strange audio logs, and bone chilling art.
- 24 Podcast Episodes
- A Side: Jack's Story. A 12-episode story following a journalist through the ruins of his city as he tries to trace his husband's trail, and uncover the sinister truth behind "The Flash."
- B Side: Side Stories from across Palmyra. These are found footage and narrative prose episodes like "Speddy Bears" which will give us glimpses at parallel stories from all across the city.
- 24 ART-ifacts
- Some of our stories are told in other formats, like the Stalk Walker and 541.4 Mercer St. These are multi-media pieces consisting of artwork, audio logs, short stories, videos, and more. More than just telling you about all the horrible monsters in the Exclusion Zone, we can show them to you!
- These pieces will be released bi-weekly between podcast episodes. That means once we launch, you'll have something new and cool to listen to or look at every week for almost a full year!
- 2 Zines & Merch
- A very important part of this project is bringing these stories off the screen and into our world. Many of our tiers do just that, by fabricating the horrifying Polaroids "found" within Palmyra, or creating brochures found within the world. We’re also creating zines to serve as a physical compilation of all our artist's work!
Our team is composed of viral horror artists like Trevor Henderson(Siren Head, Cartoon Cat), Eduardo Valdés-Hevia (Book of Bill, Home Safety Hotline), Trevor Roberts (Mystery Flesh Pit National Park), Ben Counter(Warhammer 40k), Nic Boone (Dead by Daylight) and led by Pacific S. Obadiah (SCP Archives, Dead Space: Deep Cover) and a dozen other incredible artists!
Palmyra is a small city on a peninsula in northern Michigan. For most of its history it has been a sleepy tourist town. But in the early months of 2027, the ATF and DHS planned to raid the headquarters of an extremist right-wing militia known as the Liberty Lions. Sympathizers in local law enforcement tipped the Lions off and what followed was a bloody shootout with dozens of casualties on both sides. Following this violent clash, a city-wide evacuation began, but before it could resolve Palmyra was hit by a second disaster: The Flash.
Late one evening, the night sky filled with bright streaks of light “... as if the stars were cascading down from the heavens.” Just as quickly as it came, the light vanished, leaving behind only confusion. The remaining citizens tried to flee the city, but were quarantined before they could escape.
Now, over 100,000 people are trapped within the city. The fighting between the Feds and the Lions is ongoing. And, following the Flash, strange things have started creeping out of the rubble in Palmyra. Temporal anomalies, paranormal events and strange creatures from diseased citizens to floating ‘flesh cubes’ haunt the city in ever greater numbers.
Everything in Palmyra is awful, and no one is safe. And yet, the people stranded here have found refuge in their local communities. Survivors band together, trade amongst themselves, and navigate their new surroundings. Meanwhile the Feds and the Lions manoeuvre through the bullet-riddled streets, profiteers offer dubious promises of escape, and a few hardy souls search for the truth behind the Flash, the Lions, and the strangeness.
This is where our story begins. You can listen to the pilot episode of our podcast series below!
